Program Description
There are places where the most beautiful views appear when you least expect them - around the corner of a narrow street, at the top of a stone staircase or as you step onto a terrace overlooking the sea. These are exactly the kinds of hidden gems you'll discover on this day trip from Málaga to Frigiliana and Nerja. In a single journey, you'll experience the charm of a traditional Andalusian village and the atmosphere of a coastal town where life unfolds to the rhythm of the Mediterranean.
Your first stop will be Frigiliana, picturesquely situated approximately 300 metres above sea level. It is one of Andalusia's characteristic pueblos blancos, or white villages, which has retained its traditional charm. Its historic centre resembles a maze, with narrow streets winding between whitewashed houses, stairways climbing through the village and colourful flowers and ceramic details brightening the white façades.
It's worth forgetting about a planned route for a moment and simply taking in your surroundings. During your free time, you can explore Frigiliana at your own pace, wander down quiet side streets and stop wherever something catches your eye. The village is full of little details that are easy to miss when you're in a hurry, while its hillside location offers a different perspective on the surrounding landscape. Its subtropical microclimate adds to the Mediterranean character of this corner of Andalusia.
Leaving Frigiliana's whitewashed streets behind, you'll continue to Nerja, where the landscape opens up to the blue waters of the sea. The town is known for its sweeping coastal views and the famous Nerja Caves, where prehistoric cave paintings have been discovered. On this trip, however, you'll have free time to explore the town centre independently.
Nerja's most iconic landmark is Balcón de Europa, or the Balcony of Europe - a viewpoint extending out over the rocky coastline. Step up to its balustrade and you'll be rewarded with views of the Mediterranean Sea, nearby beaches and the picturesque shoreline. It's one of those places where you'll want to linger a little longer, even if you still have more of the town to explore.
You can spend the rest of your time discovering Nerja's streets, squares and historic churches. If you're interested in local history, you could also visit the Nerja Museum independently. Or perhaps you'd prefer to sit in a café, watch everyday life unfold and soak up the relaxed coastal atmosphere?
Frigiliana and Nerja show how two very different worlds can exist so close together. One is nestled among hills and whitewashed houses, while the other draws visitors with its open spaces and sea views. Together, they offer a journey through a quieter, charming side of Andalusia.
The order of visits and the itinerary may be subject to change.
