Palmetum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a botanical garden specialising in palm trees, located near the Recinto Ferial exhibition and conference centre. Its main attraction is an extensive collection of palms from around the world, displayed alongside plants typical of their natural habitats. As you explore the garden, you'll discover just how diverse tropical vegetation can be.
Walking along the garden paths, you'll encounter native plant species from the Canary Islands as well as exotic vegetation from places such as New Caledonia. One of the highlights is the Caribbean plant collection, considered the most diverse section of the garden. It's a wonderful opportunity to see species normally found in distant tropical regions.
During your visit, be sure to look out for the baobab trees, among the most distinctive trees in Palmetum. Interestingly, the specimens growing here have flowered regularly since 2012! Their unusual appearance makes them stand out even among the garden's impressive collection of exotic plants.
