Program Description
Discover a completely different side of Thassos on an exciting jeep safari through the island's mountainous interior. This off-road adventure takes you beyond the popular coastal resorts, revealing breathtaking landscapes, traditional villages and some of the island's best-kept secrets.
After hotel pick-up, you'll travel by 4x4 jeep along scenic mountain tracks and forest roads, reaching places inaccessible to ordinary vehicles. One of the first stops is the Marble Quarry, where the island's famous white marble has been extracted since ancient times and is still renowned for its exceptional quality.
A highlight of the excursion is Ipsarion, the highest peak on Thassos, rising 1,204 metres above sea level. From the summit, you'll enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the mountains, forests and coastline, offering a completely different perspective of the island.
The adventure continues to Kastro, a historic mountain village often referred to as the island's "ghost village". Its traditional stone houses, narrow streets and peaceful atmosphere provide a fascinating glimpse into the island's past. There will also be time for a short break to enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
You'll then visit the Kastro Waterfalls and Lake Maries, two beautiful natural attractions surrounded by lush greenery. These peaceful locations showcase the untouched beauty of Thassos and offer the perfect opportunity to relax in nature.
After the safari, you'll return to your hotel.

The jeep tour did not disappoint. We gained respect for these vehicles, as the roads were challenging and the drivers were very good. The bumpy terrain made the trip more interesting, and no one was sure to fall asleep, as the views along the way were exquisite. The panorama from Ipsarion is difficult to describe in words. The view is incredible, with views of surrounding islands, Thassos`s beaches, and towns. The peak itself is quite interesting and photogenic. We had the pleasure of riding with a Polish guide, Mr. Paweł, who is passionate about the island. In addition to telling the group stories, we learned a few secrets. It`s clear he`s delving into the knowledge himself, not only from the internet but also from local residents. At the summit, we had a sandwich and water, but we returned for dinner, so no one was hungry. The waterfalls were charming, the lake was interesting, and the marble mine and the narrative about the island`s operation showed us a different side of Thassos. The tour was conducted in a relaxed manner, with plenty of time for photos, shade, and a breather, but everything was paced. We highly recommend it! Worth the price, and the memories are priceless! The pool isn`t mentioned as much as a trip like this. Itaka`s organization was excellent.
